Field Barrier can be used to protect your Field Spell Card from easy removal, this keeping this monster's ATK and DEF up, and it's immunity to Spell and Trap Cards.
To get around the limitation of Normal Summoning with him on the Field, use Spell and Trap Cards which Special Summon Monsters from the Graveyard or Deck and put them on the Field. Of course, Monster effects which allow for Special Summoning are always tricky, but also possible. And then there are token monsters (other monsters are more preferred, as most token monsters are weak).
